The story of Bio-Lence began in AD 2013, considered an unlucky year for many. American society had degenerated into chaos roughly five years before as a result of escalating gang violence due to a declining economy, political activism turned extreme as a result of little being done to stop the problem (not to mention mass job losses and diminished relationships with almost every other nation in the world) and a government who simply couldn't cope with it all after the systematic murder of several of their top officials. The general public had nothing or no-one to turn to and for the most part decided upon doing one of three things - join the gangs if possible, the activists if not or simply attempting to hide away from it all.
The police force, air force, army and navy simply couldn't prepare for the level of violence they were assigned to deal with. They were outnumbered hundreds-to-one each time they attempted to control any given situation and were hopelessly overwhelmed and viciously beaten or killed by the mobs. In time they began to run out of resources to fight back, the mobs had control of several munitions sources and other important landmarks to stop any progress being made.
Early 2013 saw a turn of events that was quite simply the last option available. Long before the chaos began scientists had been working on some sort of drug to supposedly neutralise people of a violent nature - criminals and gang members mainly. Development of the product was drastically rushed once all hope appeared to be lost, the gangs that the activists wanted dealt with had unofficially joined them to take apart what was left of civilised society at that time, meaning that despite the fact that the activists had finally achieved their goal the destruction continued because after five years of it they didn't know what else to do. The drug was dubbed Bio-Lence upon its premature completion, and someone even took the time to come up with a slogan for it: "Bio-Lence stops Vio-Lence."
Little was know about the drug and exactly what it was supposed to do, but the neutral survivors and political figureheads left alive who were aware of what was now happening didn't care. They were told it would stop the mayhem caused by the once-normal, generally peaceful citizens of the United States, and to them that was all that mattered. They weren't interested in how it worked, as long as it did work.
As it turned out Bio-Lence was developed in the form of a gas, green in colour and resembling a pesticide for a number of reasons. The scientists convinced their superiors there was no need for testing it, mainly because they needed to act quickly due to a large number of people forming a rally nearby and because they were 100% positive it would do its intended job and somehow stop these people from the death and destruction they had caused over the last five years.
March 1st, 2013 was the date when the Bio-Lence gas was taken into the air via helicopter and dropped on a group of maybe 10,000 unsuspecting people in the United States capital Washington DC. What happened next was astonishing to all who were watching from outside the drop zone - the yelling stopped, the vandalism of property ceased, people literally dropped their weapons and calmly walked away. Bio-Lence had worked! It was finally all over and the rebuilding process could soon begin across the nation once the drug had been utilized of any large group.
Bio-Lence was dropped on around half a dozen more large groups of rioters over the next few days, tens of thousands of people had inhaled the gas and as if by magic had completely stopped any aggressive behaviour. However, things were not quite going according to plan in the capital where the first batch was dropped, strange noises could be heard in the dead of night and unusual shadows were spotted darting from one side of a street to another. At first these happenings were dismissed as simply being caused by wild animals, but some were still sceptical.
Exactly two weeks after the first use of Bio-Lence, the source of the unusual sightings and noises was revealed. The reality was far more terrifying than any wild animal... the drug hadn't worked. Survivors who had let the guard down and openly walked the streets were torn to pieces by an unknown entity, it wasn't an animals doing as teeth hadn't been used - the deceased were literally being ripped limb from limb. Once the new threat had been fully realised work began on understanding exactly what was happening, and soon they were able to find out.
This man was shot and killed soon after this photograph was taken, he had strayed into a heavily fortified building. Subsequent experiments on his body revealed that Bio-Lence had not only not worked but had almost the exact opposite intended effect. People 'infected' developed vastly improved strength, speed, agility and resistance to pain - it took six shots from a standard handgun to eventually kill the man in the picture.
Once these discoveries had been made further monitoring of the 'infected' people revealed that despite the improvements scientists were already aware of they did have a noticeably decreased level of intelligence. They could still communicate in English which in itself was dangerous enough, but they seemed to have no practical use for any weapons or a cautious approach to potentially life-threatening scenarios. This made them extremely dangerous and yet vulnerable, it was also discovered that the virus was airborne adding to the threat of a nation-wide infection. This is where the story truly begins - with you.
You will play either an 'infected' victim of Bio-Lence or a surviving human. What you do and how you do it is your decision, but remember that friends can be infected due to the airborne virus - all it takes is a drop of saliva or a sneeze and you're chances of survival are slim. However, rumour has it that a cure does exist...
